Enter the Horde
It was supposed to be a fun weekend away in the country. But, when they arrived in the small, out of the way town, it was all but deserted. Not a soul was to be seen, and the hotel they were staying at was dark and empty.
It was an odd occurrence, but it was late at night, so they kept on driving until they saw a light in the distance.
They came to a stop at a run-down farmhouse. They got out, ascended the creaking steps, and rang the bell hoping someone was awake.
Heavy footfalls entered the hallway, and the door was flung open by an irate older gentleman.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he asked. “Weren’t you warned before coming here?”
“What do you mean warned?” the younger man asked. “I got all of our reservations online. There were no warnings that I could see.”
“Money hungry crooks!” The old man said. “Go back from where you came. There is darkness in these parts.”
He shrugged at the strangeness of the old man’s words. “Seems quiet and peaceful,” he said.
The old man shook his fist in anger. “It’s quiet because everyone is gone—vanished!” he said. “Get out of here before it’s too late!”
He shook his head. “You’re joking,” he said. “We’ve driven four hours to get here. Couldn’t we stay for the night? We can leave in the morning if there is no one to give us a room.”
There was an ominous shuffling sound coming from the nearby woods. The old man yelled and backed away from the door.
“No, you fool, go now!” he said. “There is no time!”
He slammed the door in their faces and bolted it. They were left standing on the doorstep as the shuffling grew louder.
Muttering about lunacy they turned back to their car. That’s when they saw the approaching horde.
They screamed and ran for their car. The whole town seemed to be approaching. Dark things were truly about.
