Spook-tober: Day 24

Coming From Below

No one believed the stories and mentions in popular culture. It flew in the face of reason that something was lurking in the town’s water supply and sewer system. It was a sensational story, but just that, a story.

It didn’t stop teenagers and young adults from slipping below ground and attempting to scare their friends as much as humanly possible, before running out of the sewer screaming in the middle of the night.

It was harmless, but tiresome, and AJ was determined to put an end to it once and for all. They took a flashlight, an extra change of clothes, and a few snacks before setting out.

They entered the underground from a little used cave system on the outskirts of town. It seemed as though nothing was amiss, but they kept their eyes open, and headed deeper into the underground.

They reached the connecting tunnel with the municipal sewer system, made note of the damaged door, and started to grow bored with all of this.

AJ hadn’t expected to find an underground monster, but they expected to find something—anything.

The tunnels echoed lifelessly. Nothing moved, breathed, or scurried across their path.

The hairs on the back of their neck stood up, and they became hyperaware of their surroundings. They contemplated turning around but freaking out over nothing, was silly.

They stepped into a rundown side tunnel and felt something viscous and slimy drip down the back of their neck. They looked up and stumbled back against the wall in fear.

Glowing red eyes stared back from the corner and luminous spittle dripped from its jaws.

AJ screamed as the creature rushed at them and dragged them off into the shadows to be eaten later.
