Spook-tober: Day 9

Stranger

Stranger

She found the old, faded photograph in a book when she was a child. There were no identifying features to help identify the subject, but she’d been captivated by it nonetheless.

Decades seperated them, but she kept the photograph and wondered what his life was like, who he was, and how he spent his time. She didn’t know his name, but to her she would always been Him.

None of the men in her life could ever measure up to the man in the photograph. Her heart yearned to know him, but she knew that would never come to pass.

He was ageless in her mind, but she knew that wasn’t how reality worked. Her heart ached, but she did try with men her own age. It wasn’t their fault her perfect man lived in her head.

This last breakup had been particularly messy.  He heart was shattered and she felt more alone than ever. She clutched his photograph in her pocket and sought the quiet solace of the ancient graveyard at the end of town.

As she walked through the weathered headstones her feet were pulled onward as if by an invisible force.

Her eyes darted around in confusion. She’d never been this far in before. A pale, smoky figure watched her as she approached.

He smiled, and her heart leaped into her throat.

It was Him!

She darted forward and her eyes filled with tears.

“I thought this day would never come!” She said.

“I have been waiting for you,” he said. “Now we can me together.”

He held out his hand and she eagerly took it. Together they walked off into the night and disappeared in the distance.
