BREAKING NEWS: BODY PARTS FOUND IN HILLS
On Sunday afternoon hikers in Solitaire State Forest made a grisly discovery. Ollie Miller and Mary Henderson, friends from Lower Range, have hiked together on the aptly-named Death Trail regularly without incident, and expected their latest ramble to follow suit. Yet the two were barely an hour into their walk when assailed by an ‘unforgettable smell’, and brief investigation led them to human remains near the track. Despite police issuing an information blackout to the media, sources confirm the cadaver was incomplete.
Park rangers were first on the scene, followed by law enforcement and the coroner’s van. Initial rumours hinted that the remains were those of two girls who vanished in Solitaire eight days ago, but it was confirmed by our source that the body parts recovered appear to belong to a man aged between 35 – 50 years. No identification was found at the scene, but DNA has been taken and dispatched to the lab.
Due to the macabre findings the search area for missing teenagers Amelia Addaway and Genevieve Rayworth, both 19, was expanded. Since their disappearance the search teams had been focussed on the immediate area surrounding the Sleeper Track, the slowly ascending trail the teenagers were last seen on. However with the new findings search and rescue have called in more people to painstakingly crawl on hands and knees through Solitaire.
It has been a slow, intense process, with emergency services working in the unrelenting heat but refusing to take it easy. Early yesterday the second discovery was noted, and as the day drew on numerous human remains were found scattered in a 20-kilometre radius spreading out from the Death Trail. This morning trackers found blood smears and footprints, the latter appearing to belong to people wearing the same shoes Amelia and Genevieve wore when they vanished, and traced them to a makeshift campsite sixty kilometres from their last known location.
Here searchers found the blood-stained backpacks belonging to Amelia and Genevieve, as well as personal items not revealed to the media. However inside sources confirm that the pieces appear to belong to to an undisclosed number of victims. It is also unknown if any of the parties were alive when they reached the campsite, however forensics expect blood samples to reveal some answers within the coming weeks. Unfortunately identification will be a long, slow process – as will cause of death and locating the perpetrator.
The Solitaire State Forest has been closed indefinitely to everyone apart from park rangers and law enforcement, with police issuing a warning to adventure-seekers that the forest is an active crime scene with unknown killer or killers still loose and possibly hunting their prey along the hiking trails.
