Spook-tober: Day 17

Banish

The chanting called to him. His heart began to race as he waited behind the ever-thinning veil to be called forward into the next world. He’d watched so many go before him and now it was his turn.

He was going to wreak so much havoc upon the human world. He wouldn’t make the same mistake he did last time.

They called his name and he stepped through the veil with an impressive display of power, but he was met with anything but shock and awe. They laughed at him–laughed!

He seethed with anger and stamped his foot. “How dare you!” he said but his voice didn’t boom with authority, it squeaked as if he was no more dangerous than a field mouse.

The laughter increased and he took the a moment to look around. Children–mere children were seated in a circle around him, and he was no bigger than one of their shoes!

“Aw, look at him,” one of them said. “He’s not scary at all!

He stood up to his full height and waved his hands around. “My size doesn’t matter,” he said. “I can end you with one blast!”

Red light shot from his fingers, but it did little more than blacken the already worn out floor. He stamped his foot in anger and sat on the floor to sulk. What good was he to anyone in this state?
“You told me we were going to summon a powerful demon!” one of the boys yelled. “What good is this toy?”

“I don’t know, he’s kind of cute. I think I’ll keep him!”

A little girl scooped him up and held him up to look at. He kicked and screamed, but it did no good. He was no danger to any of them. He was told he would pay for his crimes.

He never imagined it would be like this. Anything would be better than this!

“Send me back,” he begged. “Please send me back!”

“I don’t think so,” she said. “I’m taking you home with me. We are going to have so much fun!”

He screamed as he was shoved into a frilly pink pocket and bounced around down an endless flight of stairs. His life was over.

He was a child’s plaything.

It was going to be hell on earth.
