Her image was nothing but a blurry smear in the mirror, but she knew her beauty was unsurpassed. All eyes fell on her as she entered a room, and her dance card was always filled for every party she attended.
Her peers mocked her for her brazen attitude, but it made the monotony pass more easily and she craved high levels of admiration and adoration, so her methods suited her habits just fine.
Tonight was no exception, but the inane chatter was grating on her nerves, and a headache was growing from the tension and her imminent need to feed.
She walked out to the wide balcony and stared over the railing to the reflection pool below. The fairy lights and stars illuminated the water along with the stars. It gave the impression of a lake of fire below, and she was transfixed by the beauty and rippling water.
Normally, she was the ultimate predator at these parties, but tonight she did not hear the footsteps coming up behind her.
