Spook-tober: Day 27

Mythical

She dreamed of meeting a mythical creature her entire life. Her mother said it was a flight of fancy, but in her heart she knew her mother was wrong.

She just needed to know where to look.

Of course the creatures would be scarce in the city. There was hardly any room for the humans living there, any smart being would stay well away from the congestion. She needed to get away from the smog and the noise.

They moved to the country when she was a teen.

Her brother hated it, but she felt as if she could finally breath. The air, the sunshine, the open fields, and the lifestyle suited her. She easily made friends, and felt as though she belonged somewhere.

She never let go of her dream.

She explored the wooded area several times before and found nothing. Then as she was reading a few books she decided to go late at night during a full moon. She wanted company, but as nice as her new friends were, they’d rather party than go for a walk in the woods.

She was happy to go alone.

The clearing was bathed in a faint silvery light, and a soft haunting music came to her ears. She followed it to a small lake, and stood at the water’s edge in awe.

She saw creatures in the water–unlike any she’d seen before.

They were so beautiful!

She found herself drawn to them–drawn to the water. Her feet moved without her asking, and she only started to panic as the water steadily got deeper and deeper. She couldn’t get back to the shore.

She was going to drown!

One of the creatures swam to her with a beguiling smile upon her lips. Her heart calmed for a moment until the creature grabbed her hand and dragged her deep under the water.

The light left her eyes.

Her mother had been right, but her dream wasn’t a fantasy–it was a nightmare!
