12 Days of Christmas..Fear: Day 4

He Is Coming

The celebrations are beautiful and joyous, but no one else around her remembered where it had all originated from. All they saw was the cheer and joy, and remembered nothing of the darkness that spawned it all.

She remembered it, because she was one of the few behind it who had managed to survive the aftermath. She wished she’d joined the others. The pain was too great to bear, and knowing it had become something to celebrate only deepened that pain even more.

She’d been promised a new beginning if she joined the cause, but what they hadn’t told her was that the cause was futile to begin with. They had lost before they really began, but they insisted victory was imminent.  She saw the end and hoped right along with the rest of them, but the outcome had been the same. He didn’t save them like so many claimed he would.

Now, she had her pain and guilt magnified with each passing year as the celebration grew more and more elaborate.

She could not take it anymore! Tonight was the last feast she would attend. She welcomed the consequences. She’d already been tortured more than anyone else could possibly manage.

He sat behind his computer screen and laughed.

“Foolish, short-sighted, girl,” he said. “Things are playing out just as they should. You will be the catalyst to my ultimate triumph, and you will not be allowed such an easy release! Tonight will be a new beginning for all of us!”

He cackled with anticipation and prepared for her imminent arrival.
