A Fortnight of Lust: Day 6

Kiss of Death

by Dominick May

In the darkness, I could hear the faint beep of some machine. As I laid there, for I knew I was laying down. A fog slid over my thoughts. Suddenly there was speaking, and my throat was hurting.

“Does he have any family, that we can contact. ” this came from the doctor who was standing over the old man.

“No doctor, it seemed he was living alone.” A second voice answered, in a sweet feminine tone. It sounded a lot like my late wife.

A memory drifted up into the darkness. Laughter rung out across the park. Her hair shining a golden blonde. Young and free, her eyes stayed on me as much as possible. I had just proposed and she said she would think on it. I loved her for her mischievous ways.

The memory jumped ten years. She was a nurse now. I was bringing her food as there had been an accident and everyone was needed. She was still so beautiful and in command of her station. Her eyes looked up with a smile and a head motion to give it to the nurse at the front desk.

Time jumped again, this time twenty. There were tears in her eyes. The blonde in her hair had started to gray. I didn’t want to  see this. She layer on a gurny, the doctor over her. I had come to giver her the dinner as she was working late. The man that had shot her was being dragged away by the cops. It seems he was deranged or something.  I didn’t care, she was dying, and I couldn’t do anything but watch.

Lucky it faded before the end happened. I loved so much, but there she is. Her hand out stretched to me. Those eyes still full of mischief and love. I took her hand, and all that pain built up in me slowly faded. She pulled me in and whispered ” I’ve been waiting dear. Let me show you around.”
