Day #10: Diamonds Are Forever by Amber Averay
If diamonds are a girl’s best friend
It’s a friendship I’ve not known
I’d love to be surrounded
But am constantly alone.
How magnificent would it be
To drape in glorious gems
That glitter and wink and remain most loyal
Better than human friends?
To glitter like a shining star
Or to gleam just as bright
As a celebrity in the camera’s flash
On a production’s opening night.
Fiery rubies and luminescent pearls
Flare and soothe in turn,
But the cold glare of the diamond
Is the regard for which I yearn.
Perhaps it is a frivolous dream
That I should seek to acquire
A collection of such beautiful gems
To fill others with desire.
But also I want them all for me,
Though I fear that I shall never
Experience the smug delight
That diamonds are forever.
