A Fortnight of Lust

Day #12: Loving Care by Amber Averay

Absolutely exhausted, she’d tumbled into bed after work and when he’d joined her not five minutes later, she was fast asleep. He knew she had been pushing herself hard the last months, what with taking on extra hours at the firm and spending her free time with him renovating the old house they’d bought. But every time he’d asked Ana how she was doing, she’d smiled and said firmly, ‘I am fine.’

Clearly she wasn’t. So he tucked her in and took to his side of the bed, taking care not to nudge or bump her. She needed to sleep.

The next morning he called her boss, informing him Ana would not be going into work for a few days. He’d arrange the sick certificate from the doctor. Then he made her a coffee, which he carried through to the bedroom when he heard her stirring. He assured her she had half a week of rest, and braced himself for the explosion – she was so independent she despised weakness or coddling. But she smiled, thanked him for the coffee, and was asleep again before he left the bedroom.

He’d done the right thing. She always looked out for him; now it was his turn to do the same for her.
