Together Again
By Dominick May
This was the third time I found myself in front of this stump. Following the path led me here, and I should have been able to follow it backward to get out.
I had gone on this little hike to release the stress from work. My boss was all over me to get this project done. The problem was that I was waiting for the other members to finish so it could be put together.
Now I’m staring at this stump, trying to figure out what’s next. So I sat on it, that’s right, it’s a stump, and if I’m going nowhere, then I might as well get comfortable.
That’s when my ex-girlfriend came around the corner. “Oh no, what are you doing here.”
She gave me a strange look. ” How did you get here. This is the third time I’ve come around on this trail. I’ve been trying to get out.”
“That’s strange it’s the third time around for me, and I had decided to sit down and figure out a different solution when you came around.” I exclaimed.
“No, I’m heading back out.” She seemed frustrated and left down the right path. About twenty minutes later she reappeared coming up the left path.
She started crying ” I’m stuck, and it’s with you. This is a punishment for leaving you last year right?”
“Not from me, I understand, why you left. You need someone more financially secure. I’m one train wreck after another. Love is not enough in this world, bills, food, fun. All these cost money, and that’s something I don’t have.” There was a refection of shame in my weak voice as I spoke.
