25 Days of Terror

Day 1

The Original

My fingers twitched at his unabashed arrogance. I did what I could to contain my rage. To hear him tell it, he was the savior to all, and deserved to be venerated for it without question…

The fawning and adoration all who gathered displayed, was almost too much to bear. But, I really wasn’t paying attention until he callously took credit for something I had done.

My patience evaporated and I screamed out.

“You’re a liar! How dare you choose to stand on the shoulders of the real innovators, and claim that glory for yourself!”

His head snapped up, and his brash demenor shifted in an instant.

“I am the liar?” he asked. “Who are you to make such a claim? Your eyes haven’t left the ground this whole time!”

My eyes flashed with fury and my nails bit into my palm. His audacity knew no bounds. It was clear he had no idea who I was, but he was intent to brook no challenges to his illustrious position.

His delusions mattered little to me, but I wouldn’t stand for my name being tarnished for his gain.

He tried to recapture the audience’s attention, but many curious eyes lingered on me.

He heaved a heavy sigh, leaped off of the dias, and met me where I stood. To those around us, his demeanor would be intimidating. But, to me, it was over inflated and theatrical.

“You’re wasting your time trying to intimidate me,” I said. “Walking away would be a greater use of your time, I’d think.”

He snorted and raised himself to his full height. “I grow tired of your tone,” he said. “You have yet to tell me who you are, and what claim you have to challenge my position?”

I held out my palm and turned it for him to examine. His eyes fell on the distinctive tattoo placed there. He paled and I giggled at his cowardice.

“What, has the irrefutable truth stilled your too eager tongue?” I asked. “I created everything you see before you, but you thought you could claim it for yourself. Did you not think you’d suffer any recourse? I am the beginning and the end, and your time is nearing expiration.”

He got down on his knees and begged, but I would not be swayed. My accomplishments were mine alone. He wasn’t the first to commit this folly, and I knew he wouldn’t be the last.

But, the end would always come by my hand as it had before.
