Day 8
What the hell is going on?
My eyes refused to process what I’d just seen. There was no doubt left that this fire wasn’t natural. People didn’t just become piles of ash in seconds.
The logical part of my brain screamed to run, but knowing I’d been spared yet again, only drove me forward.
I should have been consumed as quickly as he’d been, yet I was still standing. There was a reason for it, and I was going to discover it.
I quickened my pace to leave the bizarre tragedy behind me, and snaked my way back from where the fire had come.
The path it forged was blackened, but the surrounding areas were largely untouched, and the distinct smell of char was absent in the night air. I was fascinated and terrified all at once.
As I crested the hill before me, odd voices surrounded me, but I could see no one.
“We’ve been waiting for you,” they said.
In an instant an icy wind whipped up around me, and my world went black.
