Day #19 – by Amber Averay (continued from Day #18):
Why did I have to be so nosy? So reckless? So…
‘Hey!’ I snapped, indignation and outrage sizzling through me as his taunt registered. ‘I am not gullible!’
The voice sniggered. ‘Then what would you call it? Perhaps you would prefer “naïve”? “Innocent”? “Stupid”?’
‘There’s no need to be insulting!’ I cried, mentally berating myself for arguing about my lack of intelligence with a man – a voice – who drugged and kidnapped me, and was basically threatening to set fire the room next door. My foolish curiosity and natural inclination to believe what I saw should not be up for discussion.
Eyes stinging and nostrils burning from the stench of petrol, I staggered deeper into the weapons room and finally snatched up the hook from the floor. It was heavier than it looked, but I felt safer with it in my grasp.
‘And what do you plan to do with that?’ The amusement in the voice infuriated and terrified me.
I bared my teeth. ‘Come here and find out!’
