Fae Food

“A table for two, please,” a customer asked the host.

From what everyone saw they could tell it was the nervous man’s first date with the lovely woman standing next to him.

They sent him a knowing nod before grabbing two menus and leading the young couple to a small table out in the garden.

For all appearances it was a chilly December night, but the garden was like stepping into a warm summer’s day instead.

The couple was mystified—especially since they could see no roof over the garden. There were no seat warmers anywhere.

As they settled in, their new conversation filtered into the night. The awkwardness was palpable between them, and a side of unease seasoned the words

The tables were full, but not a word could be heard aside from the young couple. It was a strange scene to behold.

They knew the rules—the locals. They knew not to speak unless spoken to, and then, only to utter what they wanted.

Even affection is communicated non-verbally—handholding and gentle kisses add flare to the ambiance and to garnish their meals.

The waiter arrived offering the couple a pad and a pen, and waited patiently for the couple to stop their sour banter to put in their orders.

“Um what does this mean?” The woman asked only greeted by silence in return.

Eyes never left her as she continued to speak. This Natalie and Matthew were perfect for the night’s special, and they couldn’t stop trying to inquire about it.

“Can I get more than just the special?” She pressed. “Please?”

After being met with more silence she turned to Matthew. Between them the nervousness was boiling into fear. Yet, he could only shrug.

They eventually relent and write down their orders.

The waiter smiled and left. Only to return a few minutes later with another couple.

Natalie and Matthew vanished—the new couple feasting happily in their place.

Natalie and Matthew—Tonight’s Special—will leave you asking for more. Together, only $13.34!
