Haunted Gameshow
Leo Driver
Now that I’m grown, I only have the tv on for noise. I’m one of those types of people that didn’t really like watching the shows on screen until something interesting happened while I was in its vincinity.
Today was no different. There I was sitting on the couch and reading a good book until I heard the phrase, “Guess That Date! ” It was right in-front of me. I would recognize that phrase anywhere—it was my favorite show as a kid!
I looked up at the screen, and suddenly, I was there…
I don’t know how it happened, one moment I was in the comfort of my own home, the next – I stood in between a Killer Clown and a Mothman in an undone office uniform—I still can’t fathom it, honestly.
“Please applaud for our contestants: Cleo Meo, Valery Amberson, and Ferry Verry!” The host called out our names in order. My name, for the first time ever, has looked the most normal in the list.
Instantly, the disembodied voices and clapping of hands could be heard all anound us—Me? I don’t believe this is real.
“Tonight’s show is very special, why? Because it is Halloween of course! As well as this all wouldn’t be here without YOU! ” The host then points at me, only confusing me more, “Ms. Amberson, without people like you, we would all be off the air for good!
So, what do ya say? Wanna join us?”
And a hand reaches out to me.
I hesitate for a moment, trying to decide what lie to believe in instead of what is going on right now before nodding sheepishly and take his hand.
From then on, I became a reoccurring character in my childhood show. My name was changed to, “Ms. Amberlynn” for the sake of showbiz.
I don’t win every episode I’m on, but the audience loves me all the same! The host smiles and we play his game forever more.
“Can YOU Guess that Date?”
