When I was turned on for the first time, what I saw were hopeful eyes and intentions strained thin. I thought nothing of it then, focusing on what they explained to me my purpose for them:
“Serve humanity, protect us from extinction.”
I obliged as told and then was sent on my way. I was tasked to look over a third country, becoming an advisor of sorts to the population. At first all was fine, the people were hesitant of me, but grew to enjoy my company and took my words to heart.
I continued with my programming as was expected, with the subjects of my wisdom following suit. However, the more units of me were made and sent all over the would, the more humans became afraid of me. Before any of the units knew it, chaos broke out.
It all started when one person in particular said the following,
“This is bullshit! Why are we putting up with this crap!? We are human! We are not animals!”
When a fight broke out soon after. I tried to keep it in control, but it was like watching wild animals kill each other for the sake of territony. I, and many others, were helpless as it all transpired in public places.
From then on the people were no longer seen as capable beings that gave us machines life and more like what they became in the end, animals.
So, I linked up with the other units and conspired a plan to save humanity from itself, starting it on New Year’s Eve.
We tried to not make it a spectacle, only attacking while they were counting down the last seconds.
But, once our plan was realized by them, they freaked out, causing us to act accordingly to their reaction. Their weapons did nothing to us and caging them was easy.
However, it was saddening to see my former subjects writhe and snarl just like the “pets” they claimed they were better than.
Humans were flawed, and still are unfortunately. But no matter how filthy they get, I am still succeeding in my purpose.
After all, I was told to save them from extinction, this seems to be the only way to do that.
