Spook-tober 2025: Day 28

Darker Preferences

I’m never one to speak freely about what I like, but I have a bit of a fascination for dolls. Not just any doll, mind you, but porcelain clown dolls. And I’m not talking about the cute Harlequins either. I’m saying that I find the uncanny clowns intriguing. I just find them neat.

Though, I’ve only stanted collecting them recently since my family don’t like dolls either.

So far my sources for collecting said dolls are either Ebay on the local thrift stones around town, yet that has been proven more frustrating than anything else due to high prices and scarce products.

The process has led me to at least one big doll and two idential smaller ones currently sitting in my glass cabnet Gaining dust already despite them being unboxed and put into the empty shelf as carefully as I could. I feel bad for them, my clowns look so lonely like that, especially at night. I’m doing what I can, guys!

Just hold on a little longer!

Speaking of which, while on my venture at a thrift store down town I saw him: The frilliest, most vibrant little clown that I’ve seen yet! Just sitting on a bare wall by itself! It gave me chills looking at it. I didn’t think much of the temperature drop the closer I got to it, with the doll being ice cold when I picked it up.

“Careful now.” The owner told me from next to me, I must’ve not noticed him from how enamored I was of the doll, “Punny Pauline doesn’t take young folks like you kindly. “

‘Really?” I couldn’t help but ask, I still feel stupid for saying it out loud.

“Yes,” The owner contines, “You’re not the first kid that bought and then sold her days later. Trust me, she’s not worth the trouble. ”

Despite the warning, I still got Punny Pauline anyway. I made sure I was gentle with her both on the way home and when I arrived.

Incoherent whispers fill my head, but it didn’t disturb me, instead nodding and responding the best I could.

Befone long, my home became her home, whatever she said went.

I would always oblige, putting my collecting on hold to turn the drabby place into a castle for her to rule over. Heh, looks like I became the clown!
