Spook-tober 2025: Day 31

Fiction Come to Life

Leo Driver

Two Muses—One from dreams and one from real life—have been at odds with each other for months now. However, it is more of a one-sided rivalry with how one has been pulling their hair out from failing time and time again to take out the other for good.

The other of course tries to be friendly, just waving and smiling while the first one is vexed beyond logical conclusions to the point that the other gets injured more than the first.

Yet, all kettles come to a boil eventually, with this one not being that much different. One day, when the first tries to choke out the other when a crash echoed between them.

But it wasn’t the circuits that got crushed on fried, but instead the glass eye that shattered into microscopic shards. Dropping onto the ground with the body dissolving into a blue myst. Here the other sighs to herself, rubbing her neck and sitting up.

“This is getting old, Myst.” She said while a new body forms a few feet away from her.

“And you’re driving me INSANE!” The new form yelled, light around them shifts and a new eye is formed within the empty socket, “I want you OUT! OUT, OUT, OUT! “

“You don’t need to yell, I can hear you loud and clear.” The other sighs, getting onto her feet and dusting her jeans off, “This spat between us will never be nesolved if you keep being aggressive like this.”

“I don’t care!” Myst snapped, walking up to (the taller land older) Muse to jab a finger at her chin, ‘This is My home, My mindscape, MY__”

Before the argument could continue eternally, the writer enters the room, chewing loudly to get both of their attention.

But, he doesn’t speak, instead hopping onto the nearest level that would make him tall enough to be seen by both and offers a moment of peace. Which was just a bucket of popcorn.

The offer was accepted and the three of them head into the Living room to watch, “The Nightmane Befone (hristmas” at the dead of night.

Happy Halloween!
