12 Days of Christmas…Fear: Day 1

Looking for a Change

He was fed up with the same old, boring existance. In the beginning it was fun, everyone though he was charming, exotic, and compelling. Over the last hundred years everything changed.

Technology invaded a quiet world, war decimated populations, and social customs began to wane. He stalked lonely, deserted streets most nights, often not meeting another soul. It was a sad state from what he once was used to seeing.

He shook his head in disgust. He’d moved to the city because of the increased populace, but it no longer seemed to matter. He no longer got spontaneous invitations to parties, social gatherings, or society parties. He knew times were changing, but it didn’t sit well with him.

He threw up his hands in frustration, leaped into the air and left everything behind. Human rules didn’t apply to him, so he refused to be bound by them any longer. He found the nearest densely populated area and decided to have a little fun!

He was quick on his feet and even quicker with his fangs. There were so many flavors to taste and scents to savor. He was oblivious of the chaos he was creating and the blood and screams he left in his wake.

He was intoxicated with his own need, strength, and power. He hadn’t enjoyed himself this much in years. Person after person, taste after taste. The night was his.
Lost as he was in his self-created chaos, he believed he was the most dangerous predator out. But something lurked in the shadows watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.

He ran through a stream of victims like water through a sieve. Exhilarated and spent he found himself in a secluded alcove. No place was safe for those who would become his victims. But he didn’t realize it would make him a victim as well.

He leaned against the wall for a moment, reveling in all he’d done. His boredom was gone, and he proved he was as effective as he once was. A smile curved over his lips, but it was quickly replaced by utter shock.

A sturdy stake pierced his heart and he fell to his knees. His eyes grew wide as he met those of a simple human. Whose smile was equally as wicked.
The man laughed as his sharp sword separated the vampire’s head from his shoulders. He’d arrived too late to save many, but no more would die tonight.

Vampires were strong, but human will was stronger.
