Day 12
Harmless
It was a bright, sunny day and she found herself in an equally cheery mood. There was a light spring in her step as she walked through the park.
She expected to see others out and about enjoying the beautiful weather, but the park was completely deserted. It was odd, but she shrugged and continued on her way. It just meant there was more peace for her to enjoy.
But, after a while, she began to grow bored. True, she could have gone home, but where was the fun in that? She kept walking a short way down the road to the shopping center.
She found this utterly deserted too, and now her mood was beginning to sour. Why was there no one out? People should be swarming every nook and cranny after the miserable weather that lasted for weeks.
Still, it did not matter to her. She would find someone. The movie theater wasn’t much further away. There had to be people there…
Not one soul!
Now, she was getting frustrated. She was desperate. She couldn’t go home now, she was comitted.
She started to run, and the only sound she heard was the slapping of her footfalls on the endless ribbons of pavement.
It was so quiet the soft sound of her phone’s alert set her heart pounding.
She dug her phone out of her pocket, looked at the screen and cursed.
WARNING TO ALL!:
IT IS THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! REMEMBER TO REMAIN INDOORS DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF WARM WEATHER!
THEY WILL BE WAITING, AND THEY WILL BE HUNGRY!
REMEMBER THEY LOOK JUST LIKE YOU AND I. DON’T TAKE THE CHANCE. STAY HOME AND STAY SAFE!!!
She hung her head defeated. She missed the old days when she could hunt in peace and no one was the wiser.
Technology changed everything, and if she was going to survive, she’d have to change too.
She didn’t like it one bit!
